⚠️ Spoiler Warning! ⚠️
This page contains spoilers for the story or gameplay of the third game, Monument Valley 3. It is recommended that you complete the game before reading.

This article is about the location in Monument Valley 3. For the animated short, see Monument Valley 3: The Lighthouse.

The Lighthouse is a central location to Monument Valley 3, serving as both a hub location accessible between levels, and an entry point to chapters themselves. The Lighthouse has proven to be an important landmark for the villagers of those voyaging by water; the Town being situated on water, sailors have for a long time relied on the Lighthouse's beacon for safety. Noor and her mentor task themselves with collecting light to maintain the Lighthouse's glow.

Story[]

As revealed by Noor’s mentor in Origata Atelier, the Lighthouse is a crucial asset to sailors traversing the shifting waters of the Town and, presumably, surrounding areas. She expresses feeling haunted by the boats that have been lost at sea in the past, cementing her mission of keeping the beacon burning.

Throughout the first handful of chapters, Noor and her mentor together complete levels to collect light at the end of them. During The Temple, when attempting to collect the light, it turns red and splinters instead of properly being harvested into Noor’s mentor’s staff, causing concern for the Lighthouse. Indeed, over the next few chapters, no Sacred Light behaves as expected, and the Lighthouse soon crumbles. Noor’s new mission is not only to restore and maintain the Lighthouse, but to recover all who were lost at sea due to the mishap.

When Noor discovers a source of natural light in flowers, she is able to use it to restore the Lighthouse, and all recovered townspeople are able to return to it.

Function[]

As Noor and her mentor collect Sacred Light, it is stored in their staff, and the player has to tap the Lighthouse's beacon to transfer light into it.

The Lighthouse has two greater purposes in the game besides its role in the plot. Between levels and after the storyline of the game is completed, the Lighthouse serves as a small-scale hub to talk to other characters, when applicable, and learn more about the game's plot. The Lighthouse itself is the entry point to chapters, too: entering its door leads the player to the chapter-select screen.

Marking a change from previous Monument Valley games, where chapters are accessed through a main menu and are solely static and separate, a hub exists outside of chapters that links the plot together. Once the first ten levels are beaten, the player can sail around on Boatem and explore the surrounding Town.
